About Me

Life’s a Mirch started in January of 2017. For years I received requests from family and friends to share insights and recipes based on my experiences as an educator, mom, and cooking/baking enthusiast. I have always been an avid writer whether it was essays, poetry, or short stories. It took me a while (hey I was popping out a couple of mini people and working on my teaching career) and some convincing, but I finally decided to turn my passions into blogging!

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” (Romeo and Juliet). So what in the world is up with the name?? It is a cute and funny pun that emphasises my cultural background and the phrase “Life is a b**ch.” Since I want to keep this family friendly we eliminated the foul language and replace it with the word “mirch”. “Mirch” is the Hindi/Punjabi word for pepper. We equate the various spice levels with the stuff that life throws at us every day. Sometimes it is sweet and endearing, and other times it burns like fire ants stinging our insides.

Since life is never predictable, and our tastes are very eclectic. The topics that this blog introduces to the world is also a bit of everything. I consider myself a fairly good expert in each! Keep in mind, I never said perfect. Perfection is not attainable. Plus, that would be super boring!

So read along as I write. Explore my versions of global cuisine, insights on education in Canada and abroad, and general family concerns. Hey, and if you want to express a bit of your talent…submit your pieces to me via email and who knows…It may just show up on my blog.

You know what I say…Life’s a Mirch!
